A quick history of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu traces back to Mitsuyo Maeda, a Japanese judoka who brought the art to Brazil, where the Gracie family refined it into the ground-fighting system the world knows today. Through decades of challenge matches and, later, the early UFC, the Gracies proved that technique and leverage beat size and strength.
Renzo Gracie
Among the family, Renzo Gracie is one of the most respected figures in the art — a legendary competitor and teacher whose New York academy has produced world champions and a global network of black belts. A Renzo Gracie affiliation is a mark of authenticity.
Mexico's first Gracie black belt
Our founder, Mario Delgado, is the first Gracie black belt in Mexico — awarded directly by Renzo Gracie. Mario trained for years at Renzo's academy in New York while competing at the highest level, earning multiple national titles and a world championship silver medal. When he brought that knowledge home, he brought the lineage with it.
Lineage isn't about bragging rights. It's about how few hands the knowledge passed through before it reached yours.
